PM1500 and PM2000-RM Series
Professional Grade Power UPS for Analytical
and Diagnostic Equipment
Overview
SYSTEL's TRUE ON-LINE Uninterruptible Power Supplies Technology
with built-in Power Conditioning characteristic was developed
in order to overcome the limitations inherent in other power conversion
designs currently on the market, protecting sensitive and critical
equipment, offering a premium cost effective solution.
Common
UPSes in the markets are designed for computer loads, taking advantage
of the "forgiving" design of their switching power supplies
which manage blackouts and brownouts of more than 50 milliseconds
without necessarily affecting operation or damaging computer equipment.
However,
analytical and diagnostic equipment can be severely affected by
even shorter power line disturbances such as voltage sags, spikes,
surges, lightning, common mode noise or extensive brownouts.
All
common technologies of On-line UPSes, as well as Line Interactive
and Off-line UPSes, are based on surge-suppressor filtering technology
alone and they do not offer ample protection to line contamination
that can be passed on to the protected equipment, at significant
levels, affecting operation and possibly damaging the sensitive
equipment under back up.
In
addition as mentioned before, the common UPSes are designed to
address, in particular, the computer load type (also known as
electronic load) with a steady state regimen, and not to handle
complex and "gulping" loads usually integrated in analytical
and diagnostic equipment, like high input current crest factor
power supplies, motors, pumps, transformers, valves, heaters,
lamps, sensors, etc. The common UPSes request an extra power rate
capacity for driving these types of loads. When operating such
loads at startups, shutdowns, partial switching and asymmetrical
current mode, they can generate even voltage overshoots and continuous
DC voltage component, damaging the equipment that they are supposed
to protect.
Implementation in unique environments
SYSTELs
UPSes provide an excellent solution for the worst of line conditions
(extreme voltage and frequency fluctuations), particularly in
countries with unstable electrical networks or developing countries
undergoing accelerated expansion of their electrical power network.
The UPSes also excel in remote, isolated locations backed-up by
auxiliary supplies, such as emergency motor generators.
India
is an example of a country with poor line conditions: voltage
fluctuations are between -30% to +25% according to the daily load
on the local electrical network. Systels UPSes have been
customized for Indian conditions, are manufactured under license
and marketed by Adtech under the name PM 1K-23. In a survey conducted
by PC Quest magazine evaluating the cost performance of 22 worldwide
UPS manufacturers (APC, Exide, Fiskars, Victron, etc.) Systels
UPS won first place.
We
have succeeded in providing high quality together with a cost
effective solution for full power protection of a large number
of sensitive and costly equipment. A few illustrative examples
of this are:
The
MRI systems manufactured by Philips Medical Systems with our PM
1500 series.
Philips Medical Systems is marketing this equipment worldwide,
especially in zones with unstable electrical power. In their case,
our UPSes satisfactorily protect the computer and electronic loads
split from the coils and other heavy but not vital loads. After
checking all kinds of options with at least 3 KVA Power Rating,
our system was chosen by the client because of its capability,
amongst other things, to drive non-linear loads without derating
its power conditioner behavior, and its capability to work from
the worst power supply sources, including motor generator.
Regarding
applications in sites backed up with emergency power source,
Israeli
army applications
Systels UPSes succeeded in meeting the stringent requirements
of Israeli army applications where vital equipment is being supplied
from motor generators in the field, solving problems that seemed
insolvable with the available budget.
Technology
Systel is a pioneer in the R&D of digital control for power
conversion products. Since 1984 Systel has been involved in R&D
and manufacturing of digital controlled On-line UPSes.
The PM UPS
series is based on Systel's patented control technology of power
conversion topology, characterized by bi-directional, four-quadrant
inverter and a unique multi-feedback, digital-embedded pulse-by-pulse
control, using property digital ICs. This technology eliminates
the limitations inherent in other power conversion designs currently
on the market based on analog controls.
